Main line, Satsuma Highway of the Edo era to link Satsuma (Kagoshima) to Kumamoto ran right in the middle of Hinagu. We pass the Hinagu Onsen station square through Takada across Maekawa, the Kuma River from the crossroads of Yatsushiro label, and national highway and way of the left slant to diverge are Satsuma Kaido at approximately 200m (night-light is built). (cf. this newspaper back cover)
It is this hot water of existing hot spring center namely Hinagu, and narrow way where houses in the town form a line on both sides is trace of haneionsen which we spoke on the former page before long. There were placard spot and guard station of 11 mairitsu in open space. In "‥ ‥ bathroom, higodendatekyu uyue is excellent to travel diary of 1829 (1829). We pose to go down bathtub, bank of cut stone, and to take a bath and…". "Hotwater reservoir is full of the tides at the time of high tide on the seaside and makes bathing for ebb tide…".
Way just goes straight on in before center, and surpass lower Shioya, Umakoshi, and go over mountains of Hatoyama; and to Futami.

Did Takamori Saigou take hot water of Hinagu, too?

At the time when not only it was the middle pivot of Satsuma Highway, but also there was hot water of hanei, Prince Shimazu of Satsuma dropped in several times, too. Possibly the prosperity that served Shimazu feudal clan might have been over there in one's youth. It was all trip more than 20 days in those days from Kagoshima-jo Castle bottom to the Edo era.
It was the first night of trips that Hinagu grew in foreign country territory. And the way home was the finale that fluttered "‥ ‥ and chest to our country tomorrow".

・In Kagoshima - Hinagu interval, santsutome of Prince Shimazu came and went a lot by ship. We arranged Hosokawa feudal clan from offer of ship to guardian deity of mariners and were friendly relations.
It is thought to be the relationship between Prince Shimazu that hot spring of hanei was established not Yamaga in Hinagu. (Fumitaka Nakahara)

Two routes of Satsuma Highway

When Satsuma Highway goes from the Kumamoto area, we are divided into way of two streaks near entrance of Yatsushiro. Right way that one goes straight on and passes through Yatsushiro-jo Castle bottom. Course called "Nara tree street" where the other avoids castle bottom.
Yatsushiro-jo Castle that was established to check Shimazu. It is said that we avoid castle town in order to avoid useless friction, and procession of daimyo's alternate-year residence in Tokyo of Satsuma feudal clan went as well as reason that distance is close in in "Nara tree street".
